Let’s be honest: not many people enjoy cleaning their bathrooms. Even if you’re type A and relish in the “controlled process” involved in cleaning bathrooms, it’s not the most fun activity, nor is it the most germ free. It’s a necessary evil that, if not completed, ruins the livability and aesthetic of your entire home. There’s nothing more revolting than entering someone’s bathroom and being concerned you will contract an incurable disease!
I thoroughly clean my bathrooms every Wednesday, and if my toilets need touching up, they are cleaned throughout the week. My weekly routine has not changed in many years, even through four different homes, and its goal is to cut down on major bathroom cleanings that can take hours. My process of toilets-counters-mirrors-towels-dusting-showers-vacuum (not necessarily always in that order) takes about 30-45 minutes depending on the day and even doubles as a pretty good little workout! I Swiffer Wet Jet the floor every few weeks (another five minutes or so) and clean my tile grout as needed (see my grout post for details). All in all, it’s not too bad or taxing, and I’ve never had a house guest complain. It also makes me feel super on top of it and accomplished. 🙂
I want to share about some of my favorite bathroom cleaning products. You can also watch the video linked below for a full rundown of the process and the products. Like and subscribe, please!
Glass: I use Method’s mint glass cleaner. I have found the best deal to be at Target. This stuff promises streak free shine, and it DELIVERS! I use it on all of my mirrors, our windows (inside and out), and even bathroom and kitchen fixtures. It’s super clean and does not affect my sensitive skin like Windex (which contains ammonia) typically does. https://www.target.com/p/method-mint-cleaning-products-glass-cleaner-spray-bottle-28-fl-oz/-/A-13966449
Toilet bowl: Method has a toilet bowl cleaner that smells GREAT and is a very clean product. I have used it and have liked it, so I will link it. However, I switched over to a disposable system last year, and I’m not going back to a typical toilet brush ever again. I love the convenience of Scrubbing Bubbles’ plastic toilet want and flushable pads. They are cost effective, have a fresh citrus scent, and there’s no touching of the pad or storing of a gross toilet brush. This is a chemical-filled product, so be careful if you have sensitive skin and definitely keep out of reach of kids and pets.
Toilet itself: Method’s antibacterial bathroom spray is wonderful! Just like the glass cleaner, it is great for us allergic people. It has a fresh spearmint scent that is not overpowering. I use it with cleaning towels or toilet paper. 5/5!
Counters: For our counters (and other surfaces around the house that need sanitizing), I use Method’s regular antibacterial spray. It comes in several nice scents, but my favorites are the wildflower and the bamboo. It kills 99.9% of germs, is safe for stone counters, and it does not contain harsh chemicals. It is also safe for items like high chairs (I have historically used a homemade essential oil spray for our high chairs and then wipe them down with a wet cloth, but I am certainly not opposed to using this product).
Showers/tubs: I again use the Method bathroom antibacterial spray, paired with water, cleaning cloths, and magic erasers, for my showers. I like using magic erasers to get down into the crevices of the stone in my master shower or to buff hard to stains off my other two bath/shower combos. If something really needs a good cleaning, I will use vinegar and baking soda with a scrub brush. I also soak my fixtures in vinegar to get rid of scum and hard water spots. Method has a daily shower spray that I will also be trying soon! Linking that one as well.
